Readdressing the skills gap in the marketing industry

Phil Livingstone, Former Global Director of Digital Marketing at The Body Shop used his 99-second talk at the 99//Club Digital Festival to discuss skills in the marketing industry today. “For me, learning and development is the lifeblood of our industry, but some companies are still paying lip service to this”, said Phil.

“What we need is a change in mindset to create more opportunities for individuals to join, learn and grow in a structured way”, he argued. “We need more rounded knowledge in more senior positions”.

In the video below Phil also answers questions on the role of academia in providing these skills and if it is pulling its weight in supporting the marketing industry.

NDA will be publishing highlights from the Festival, run in partnership with MAD//Fest, over the coming weeks.

The week-long invite-only festival was a collaboration between MAD//Fest and New Digital Age. Over the course of five days, 99 speakers debated topics across themes including media and tech, customer experience and personalisation, brand experience and creativity and innovation for growth.
