TikTok has welcomed the UK’s second largest publisher Hachette UK to TikTok Shop, following the successful launch of a new ‘Books’ category on TikTok Shop earlier this year.
The TikTok community will now be able to purchase a range of titles directly from Hachette UK’s divisional handles including Little Brown Book Group (@little.book.tok) Hodder & Stoughton books (@hodderbooks) and Headline Books (@headlinebooks). Hachette UK will offer a specially curated selection of some of the most popular books on TikTok, including a selection of those nominated for TikTok’s first Book Awards, a moment to recognise the community’s favourite authors, books and creators.
Winner of the TikTok Book of the Year was Hachette published ‘Honey & Spice’ by Bolu Babalola which will now be available on TikTok Shop.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and Heartstopper by Alice Oseman were also both nominated in the Awards, and will now be available for purchase on Hachette UK’s TikTok Shop account, along with a wide selection of books from some of BookTok’s favourite authors including Ali Hazelwood, Sally Thorne, Leigh Bardugo, Beth O’Leary, Erin Sterling and Ana Huang.
TikTok Shop enables users to purchase via the Shop icon on Hachette UK owned handles, through a shoppable link added to creator videos and through the TikTok Shop tab.
These new tie-ups build on the success of #BookTok, TikTok’s thriving reading and literary community, which has fast become one of the biggest global communities on the platform, reaching over 183 billion views to date. In the past year, the #BookTok hashtag has grown more than 160%, with our #BookTok community of authors, readers and fans transforming the publishing world, helping people ignite their love of reading and drive book sales.
Megan Smith, Non-Trade Sales Director at Hachette, commented: “We’ve seen first-hand the impact that TikTok has had on the publishing industry, helping readers discover our authors and the incredible stories they have to tell. At Hachette UK, we are obsessed with making it easy for all readers to access our books and we have a wealth of amazing stories we can’t wait to share with the BookTok community.”
Patrick Nommensen, TikTok Shop’s Senior Director of eCommerce, said: “The BookTok community is continuing to grow every day, inspiring a whole new generation of literature fans. We’re delighted that Hachette UK has chosen TikTok Shop to bring thousands of their inspiring titles to this growing community, making it even easier for book lovers to buy the latest recommendations all in one place. As a platform, we want to help everyone in the books and publishing world reach new audiences to deliver long-term success for the industry.”
This follows online retailer Books2Door who launched on TikTok Shop earlier this year, and has since emerged as one of the platform’s top-performing books retailers. Its limited edition BookTok Box, a handpicked selection of the best books at a discounted price for the TikTok community, has been a hit with their customers with the Young Adult and Fiction Books category seeing a 14.6% increase in sales [year-on-year]; which is partly attributed to its success on TikTok Shop.
