Newsquest London has partnered with PressHop, the UK’s only on-demand news content platform, to access untapped visual content captured by more than 35,000 citizen journalists.
Through PressHop’s platform, Newsquest journalists can post content requests, from breaking news coverage to photo assignments, and receive submissions from verified contributors within minutes, transforming how they source timely content in an increasingly fast-paced news environment.
Breaking events, such as flooding, transport disruption, protests, and crime can be captured immediately and shared. Every piece of content uploaded to the platform undergoes a rigorous triple-layered verification process to ensure it is authentic, trustworthy, and newsworthy.
“PressHop gives us direct access to a community of thousands of app users, helping us run on-demand tasks with greater speed and efficiency, while improving operational costs,” said Simon Murfitt, Senior Editor at Newsquest London.
PressHop now provides visual content to more than 370 media brands, marking significant momentum for the platform that consists of three interconnected parts. The PressHop App allows citizens to film and upload authenticated, real-time news directly from their mobiles; The PressHop Marketplace allows publishers and broadcasters to discover, filter, negotiate, and license authentic, user-generated content (UGC); while The Verification Panel is PressHop’s internal AI and human-powered onboarding, verification, and payments system that ensures each upload is accurate, compliant, and trustworthy.
Tom Holland, Customer Relations Manager at PressHop, commented: “This partnership represents a key early step in our mission to redefine journalism and democratise the media landscape. We’re empowering thousands of contributors to document the stories that matter to them, while giving broadcasters and publishers, like Newsquest, the agility and access they need in today’s fast-moving news landscape.”
