Tom Kerridge and Jay Rayner to talk Creativity at MAD//Fest London

Restaurateur and broadcaster Tom Kerridge will explore how creativity and innovation in the kitchen has helped the 2* Michelin chef to build a portfolio of thriving brands and businesses in a MAD//Fest London keynote interview with restaurant critic and Broadcaster Jay Rayner on 5 July.

Kerridge is one of the most awarded British chefs and restaurateurs and is responsible for iconic brands such as The Hand And Flowers, Kerridge’s Bar & Grill and The Coach. Aside from cooking up a storm in the kitchen, Tom manages a thriving media portfolio that includes best-selling books, TV shows and his Pub In The Park festival. He’s also the face of M&S’ ‘Remarksable Value’ advertising campaign.

The headline keynote interview will explore how Kerridge has built a resilient portfolio of businesses in the face of the well documented challenges for the hospitality industry. It will also focus on the lessons learned from quickly pivoting the business in the wake of a global health and economic crisis, as well as the way in which the revered restaurant group has steered through stormy waters to build long-term growth.

“You need creativity, innovation, hard work, resilience and a relentless focus on the customer to succeed both in the kitchen and in business. I think the last few years has also taught us the importance of building strong brands that enable you to pivot quickly and act when you spot a commercial opportunity,” said Kerridge.

“ I’m excited to share my story and views on how we can build thriving businesses when the chips are down!”

Kerridge will be interviewed by The Observer restaurant critic and broadcaster Jay Rayner. Rayner’s varied media work has included being a judge on multiple series of the BBC’s Masterchef TV show. He was host of the popular Out To Lunch podcast, which has recorded over 9 million listens to date, and is the author of four novels and seven works of nonfiction.

The keynote interview will be Rayner’s second appearance at MAD//Fest following a fireside chat with Ogilvy Vice-chair Rory Sutherland in 2022.

Rayner commented: “Tom Kerridge is a rare character in the hospitality business. He has created a robust portfolio of distinctive businesses, while maintaining his own personal identity and brand, but most importantly has found a way to battle through the trading challenges of the past few years, to emerge in rude health, and as an inspiration for so many in the sector. I’m looking forward to returning to MAD//Fest and getting to the heart of what makes Tom and his businesses tick.”

Expected to attract 10,000+ marketers and named ‘Event of the Year’ at the UK Event Awards, MAD//Fest London speakers include Tesco Chief Customer Officer Alessandra Bellini, Castore Founder Thomas Beahon and Ben & Jerry’s Director of Global Activism Christoper Miller, LIPTON Global Chief Marketing + Digital Officer Aparna Sundaresh, Co-op Chief Customer Officer Kenyatte Nelson and former Manchester United Captain, Founder and Broadcaster Gary Neville.
