Tubi appoints Ross Appleton as General Manager in the UK

Tubi, Fox Corporation’s ad-supported streaming service, has appointed Ross Appleton as General Manager, UK. Reporting into the Managing Director of Tubi’s International business, Appleton will be responsible for setting commercial and content strategy, scaling the company’s UK team, and continuing to grow Tubi into a market-leading ad-supported streaming service in the UK.

“We are thrilled with the momentum we have built in the UK since we launched in July, and are excited to bring Ross into the business as we continue to scale out our team and platform,” said David Salmon, Executive Vice President and Managing Director. “Ross’ deep expertise in UK TV and streaming will enable us to accelerate our growth and ensure we are delivering a content experience that UK consumers love.”

“I’m hugely excited to join the Tubi team, and look forward to contributing to the business’s rapid growth in the UK,” said Ross Appleton, incoming General Manager for Tubi UK. “Tubi has defined the AVOD category in North America, and we have a great opportunity to replicate that success here. I’m eager to build on the foundation of the recent UK launch, and firmly believe Tubi is in a strong position to become a mainstay in the UK media landscape.”

Appleton joins Tubi following a 12-year career at ITV, the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster, where he held multiple leadership roles. In 2021, he became a member of ITV’s Executive Leadership Team as Launch Director for ITVX – the company’s streaming service. Most recently, Ross served as Director of Operations for Streaming, overseeing all aspects of ITV’s streaming business.

With 81 million monthly active users, the most watched free TV and movie streaming service in the U.S. and Canada (after YouTube), officially launched in the U.K. in July with more than 20,000 movies and TV episodes on-demand. Tubi’s content library in the UK pairs some of the best Hollywood films with modern British classics, and offers series with well-known UK TV franchises alongside new areas of discovery – from Bollywood and Nollywood to Arthouse Cinema.
