With the NDA Heroes Awards fast approaching, New Digital Age is running a series of interviews with the highly-respected names on the judging panel. Next, we hear from Pete Markey, Chief Marketing Officer, Boots.
Why did you agree to be a judge?
For me, it’s a great chance to be inspired by the amazing work happening in our industry right now and the real heroes delivering that work each day.
How important is it to highlight the individuals doing great work, rather than just the businesses?
Everyone can make a difference and have a positive impact, especially in the digital/data arena, so I think it’s great we get to recognise the real pioneers and industry leaders in this way.
What makes a hero in this industry?
Someone willing to set a clear and compelling vision, bring people with them, and deliver brilliantly helping to set a high bar for excellence in the execution and in the results.
What are you looking for from the entries?
I’m looking for great stories of individuals achieving real breakthrough and amazing results through the direct impact of their own leadership and way of working within a business – in short, I’m hoping to be really inspired.
Who has been your career hero?
Dan White, who runs Ninety Consulting (digital customer experience in FS/Insurance), which he runs as a social enterprise, giving 90% of their profits to charity. He’s inspirational.
Who has been your personal hero?
My Mum. She was a brilliant communicator and really creative and had really high emotional intelligence. She lived to make a difference and really cared about people.
