We’re asking some of our industry’s leading figures to nominate their digital hero and to explain what’s so special about them.
Emma Mulqueeny OBE founded Rewired State and Young Rewired State, is a Commissioner for the Speaker’s Commission on Digital Democracy and a Google Fellow. She is currently working with Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service on their digital transformation programme. She received an OBE for services to technology and education, has won innumerable industry awards and sits on a large range of public and private boards.

Who is your digital hero?
The Speaker of the House of Commons.
What have they done to win hero status in your eyes?
In 2015 recognised that democracy was being challenged by digital and set up a commission to investigate.
How has their heroism helped drive digital?
It was an early warning of the current democratic challenge and made sure Parliament is at least ahead in its understanding of the battle
What the biggest challenges in digital we need another hero to solve?
Democracy.
What is your most heroic personal achievement so far in digital?
Getting ministers to understand data back in 2007.
