Greeting card and gift company Moonpig has launched its first augmented reality (AR) experience to support its Christmas TV ads and showcase some of the gifts it has available this festive season.
The AR mini-game, designed by Poplar Studio and powered by 8th Wall, asks users to place a Christmas sack virtually in their environment and use their finger to move it around and collect gifts that are falling from the ceiling. At the end of the game, users are able to take a photo and share it on social media.
“We’re really excited about our first foray into AR, it provides the perfect platform to bring together our Christmas moonpigs and fantastic gift range. All wrapped up in a fun, but harder than it looks, game! I’m sure consumers will enjoy it and I look forward to seeing the levels of engagement,” said Simon Hills, Director of Marketing & Brand at Moonpig.
The game will run up until Christmas day, and is part of several ‘Joys of Christmas’ digital experiences and exclusive offers that Moonpig has going on this Christmas, as it looks to raise awareness of its full gift offering.
“The ecommerce space has become increasingly crowded and brands are finding new ways of standing out to customers. Augmented reality helps facilitate this and is proven to increase user engagement,” said David Ripert, CEO and Co-founder of Poplar Studio. “We’re excited to be working with such a well-known online gifting brand such as Moonpig to bring their campaign to life through AR technology, enhancing the customer experience.”
