Global music video network Vevo has launched an ad-supported linear channel featuring pop-genre music videos, on Samsung TV Plus in the UK. The partnership builds on Vevo’s momentum and expansion into the UK market, bringing music videos back into the home to connect fans with their favourite artists.
Having first partnered in the United States in 2019, Vevo and Samsung TV Plus are extending their partnership to now provide millions of UK Samsung TV Plus users with music video programming on their connected TVs. Further European launches are planned for 2021.
Kevin McGurn, president of sales and distribution at Vevo, said: “In the US, we partnered with Samsung TV Plus during the early days of our OTT expansion. Today, they are one of our top performing television experiences, with tens of millions of viewers across Vevo channels daily. We are excited to build on this success and do the same in the UK and Europe, but with more localized curation. Samsung TV Plus has become one of the most popular OTT streaming services worldwide. Our partnership will deliver music videos directly into living rooms throughout the UK for fans of every artist and genre.”
Globally, consumer media consumption continues to shift towards streaming, and Vevo has been growing its OTT distribution over the past two years. Vevo Pop is the first Vevo channel available on Samsung TV Plus in the UK, with additional genre-curated channels to be explored for launch later this year.
Richard Jakeman, European head of business development – smart TV, Samsung Electronics, said: “With their vast, premium library featuring world-renowned artists and top hits, Vevo are the music video curators, and extending our partnership with them outside of the US was the logical next step given the success of their channels in the US to date. Through Vevo we are excited to now provide a linear lean-back music video viewing experience to more households in the UK.”
Samsung TV Plus gives its viewers access to news, sports and entertainment content. Pre-installed on all Samsung Smart TVs from 2016 models onwards, the TV Plus app does not require any downloads, sign-up, credit cards, subscriptions or additional devices.
