The tech world often shows it’s best side in times of crisis. NDA’s new series showcases those companies and the solutions that they are building.
We have all heard that healthcare professionals working at the frontline are not always getting the personal protection equipment they need to keep them safe. So a group of communications experts, data specialists, social media experts and digital storytellers have come together to do something about it.
We know people across our health service, civil service, politics and businesses are working hard to ensure our national heroes have the protection they desperately need and deserve. But in a fast-moving, complex crisis, it is difficult for leaders to have all the data they need to inform the decision-making process. Frontline.Live aims to solve that problem.
Katz Kiely, one of the volunteer architects behind the initiative said: “I am in awe of our frontline heroes. Our research revealed that in March, for example, there were over 25 thousand mentions of the need for PPE on Twitter. The majority were from frontline workers who are keeping us safe. It deeply concerns us that some of our heroes aren’t getting the kit they need to keep themselves protected. Time and time again, our team has seen the power of open data and how it helps solve complex problems faster. We decided to put those needs on the map to support decision makers across the UK so they can act faster to get the right supplies to the right places to keep our care workers safe.”
All our frontline heroes have to do is to tweet a photo with #FrontlineMap #Workpostcode #PPEneed and the team will put their needs on the map. If they don’t use twitter or would prefer to report their needs confidentially they can fill in a form at the website (www.Frontline.Live)
The team behind the site ask that if you know any doctors and nurses who are working on the frontline, please send them to Frontline.Live as they believe that good, real-time data will solve the problems better and faster.
FrontLine.Live has been built as an open-data platform to help give our healthcare professionals a voice, to put their PPE needs on the map and to provide regular vital data reports to anyone who needs them.
FrontLine.Live is free and open source. It’s hoped that other countries will pick it up, and improve the site. Ultimately, the sites mission is to become redundant as quickly as possible when key workers have everything they need to be safe.
