My Dog Hero: Rachel Vardon, Director of Commercial Development, Tripadvisor & Peggy

My Digital Dog Hero is a brand-new series from New Digital Age, created in partnership with Tripadvisor. Inspired by NDA’s most popular editorial feature, My Digital Hero, this new series celebrates the dogs that keep some of our industry’s most senior figures inspired. Today we hear from Rachel Vardon, Director of Commercial Development, Tripadvisor about her dog, Peggy.

Who is your dog hero?

My beautiful Labradoodle, Peggy. The classic COVID decision (maybe after one too many homemade cocktails with zero dog experience whatsoever), but a fabulous decision nonetheless.

Peggy is full of energy, likes to eat shoes and does four separate poos during her 30 minute walk every morning. She certainly adds to the chaos of a house with three children and a cat (who she is still desperately trying to make her friend), but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Well maybe less shoe eating and more efficient toilet going.

What has she done to win hero status in your eyes?

The true definition of unconditional love, no matter what mayhem is unfolding Peggy adores every member of our family at all times.

She’s extremely protective of the kids and keeps the local foxes on their toes when they frequent our garden.

How has her heroism helped support your career?

Peggy is a natural stress buster, I can’t look at her and not smile even after a stressful day.

I find it incredible how she has an innate understanding of emotions and always knows when to be extra cuddly. I also love that I have to take her for a walk or run, come rain or shine and regardless of how busy I am; I honestly do some of my best thinking on dog walks

What are the biggest challenges in owning a dog we need another hero to solve?

Shoe obsession, the desire to eat/roll in poo yet it’s an absolute battle to get her to eat a worming tablet. Riddle me that.

Is taking your dog on holiday a good idea?

Depends on the holiday. Wholesome countryside holidays in the UK or France, absolutely.

Chilled beach vibes, not so much.

Where in the world/Europe are the best places you’ve taken your dog?

Normandy to the beautiful countryside. So many amazing places for her (and us) to explore, with beautiful beaches which are her absolute fave.
